Progress Rail Services Corporation, a Caterpillar Company and a leading provider of services to the Railroad industry in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil, has an immediate opening for a Carman at our Columbus, Ohio Intermodal Ramp location.
Work Schedule: 12 hour shifts, 3 1/2 days on, 3 1/2 days off. Must be available to work day shift and/or night shift.
Inspection and repair of railroad freight cars in accordance with FRA and AAR requirements.
Remove and replace defective components and parts through the use of hand tools, power tools, cutting torches and welding equipment.
Fasten and assemble railcar parts by riveting, bolting, welding, and other methods.
On the job training, equipment and tools provided.
- Support in all areas of ramp operations and other duties as assigned by supervision.
Minimum 1 year mechanical experience using small hand tools.
Stick welding preferred but not required.
Must have a Valid Drivers License.
Must be able to pass 7 year criminal history review (no felonies), drug test and fitness for duty medical review and examination.
Essential Job Functions:
Physically demanding work and involves frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, lifting, climbing and walking on gravel and other uneven surfaces.
Must work outside in all types of weather conditions (rain, sleet, snow, wind, dust, extreme heat/cold).
Ability to read precision gauges and instruments.
Ability to read and understand mechanical maintenance manuals.
